Approx. 795 000. The Comorian population is a mixture of various peoples : Arabs, Bantus, Bushmen, Chirazians, Portugese, Indians. The official languages are Shicomori, French and Arabic. Comorian people are reputed for their welcoming and their hospitality.


Humid tropical climate with two main seasons characterized by the Kashkazi winds (monsoon) from November to April and the Kusi (trade winds) from May to October. The temperature varies between 79°F (26°C) and 90°F (32°C). Rain is abundant, with up to 2679 mm of annual rainfall.


98% of Muslims (almost Sunni Muslims) 2% of non-Muslims. The Islamic traditions play a major role in everyday life.


Comoros products its own drinkable water in bottles named Karthala, Hurya or Salsabill. You can also find drinkable water imported from France and from regional countries.
You have to be warned against yellow fever and cholera (vaccinations against these two diseases is recommended). Preventive measures against malaria are strongly recommended.


In accordance with the French traffic legislation, the Union of Comoros adopted the right hand drive. The International license is required when renting a car and motorcycle. Urban taxis and bush taxis are shared. The fare starts at 300 francs comoriens (0,60 euros). In the three islands, there is one main road which permits to go around the island.


Comoros is an archipelago composed by four islands which have their specific natural and cultural features.
Anjouan (Ndzuani):mountain scenery, waterfalls, scented vegetation. Fauna and flora offer a wide range of treasures (orchids, giants bats, tree ferns, makis, etc.).
Grande Comore (Ngazidja): the Karthala volcano (2361 m) and its specific vegetation, the coelacanth area, the Salt Lake.
Mohéli (Mwali):the virgin territory with outstanding beaches, emblematic and endemic fauna (Livingstone bats, dugongs, humpback whales and tortoises).
Mainly in Anjouan and Grande Comore, you can find archeological sites, gravesites, fortifications, religions buildings, sultanate buildings.
Cultural and local cuisine distinguish Comoros Islands because of its strength in everyday life.
