Situated in the verdant Cirque de Salazie —at the heart of Hell-Bourg, which is classified as one of “the most beautiful villages in France”—, La MaisonMorange, formerly an old inn located at Rue de la Cayenne, was reopened as the Museum of Music and Instruments from the Indian Ocean on Thursday 5 November 2015. This cultural facility in Réunion has been ranked among the world’s top 5 collections by the Museum of Music in Paris.

Robert Fontlup and François Ménard —two collectorsat the forefront of this museum— are offering the public “The Meeting of Cultures”: a presentation of the musical history of people of European, Indonesian, African, Indian, Chinese, and Madagascan origins. It isa remarkable visiting collection of 1,500 popular, precious, and unusual instruments. Visitors will embark on a fun journey of musical and visual discovery where the different cultures —in all their glory— will be shared. Gongs, drums, and metallophones are exhibited in spaces that are themed around India, Africa, Madagascar, and China.

Open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Groups only admitted with prior bookings from Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Closed on Mondays.
Full price : 7€ -Concessionary price: 5€
Children under 8 : free
Students and school-trip supervisors : 2€
